We don’t mean to trigger you, but it’s a matter of concern. Two cases of HMPV- human metapneumovirus infections are reported in Karnataka. In an alarming and concerning news, HMPV has hit the 8-month-old male infant who is tested positive for the virus. In the second case, the 3-month-old infant is a female. The 3-month-old baby with a history of bronchopneumonia has been admitted to Baptist Hospital, Bengaluru, Karnataka. However, it’s a sigh of relief that she is now discharged after recovering.
In case you are wondering if the infants must have been to China recently, we must inform you that there is no such case. In fact, the confirmation just came in from the Karnataka Health Department that infants have no recent travel history and thus, the alarms are being raised. There are concerns raising about local transmission of the virus. The Karnataka Health Department has already reported this case to the Union Health Ministry, and they are also keeping an eye on China’s surging situation as well as cases in India.
