The Campaign, Your Money, Your Right!
The campaign started by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman started with the phrase, Your Money, Your Right. For the first time, regulators and banks are chasing compliance as well as closure. This means banks and regulators must follow a few points.
- They must run awareness drives in every district and city, which means to educate the public on dormant assets and how to claim them.
- They should reach out to heirs, not just with FAQs, but with empathy. Also, they should promote the UDGAM portal for centralised claims.
- They must unlock funds with three-month deadlines, so hope doesn’t gather as much dust as deposit receipts. Officials must resolve cases, verify documents, and process claims quickly.
