The Indian film industry is saddened by the death of one of its most recognizable character actors, the imposing screen presence and memorable roles as villains, veteran actor Pradeep Rawat. Rawat passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 74, following a long struggle with cancer. The news was confirmed by his manager, Siddharth Tiwari and it was revealed that the actor had relapsed after he had recovered from the disease several years before.
The death of Rawat brings the end of his illustrious career that has seen him cross television, Bollywood and various regional film industries synonymous with strong antagonistic roles and dramatic performances.
Pradeep Rawat Dies After Cancer Relapse
Confirming the actor’s demise, manager Siddharth Tiwari said that Pradeep Rawat breathed his last between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm on August 4.
Tiwari claimed that Rawat had been a successful cancer patient almost four years ago. Nevertheless, the disease came around six weeks ago, and he had to be hospitalized. His health started to decline at a very high rate and his platelet count reduced drastically and even with the medical care he was unable to recuperate.
The fans and those in the entertainment fraternity have been greatly depressed with many recalling the actor because of the gravitas and genuineness which he brought to each role.
Funeral to Take Place on Wednesday
The funeral of Pradeep Rawat will take place on Wednesday after the usual last rites are given in the company of his family, friends and the film industry fraternity. His family has kept the matter of his funeral very private and no additional official information on the final arrangements is publicly announced except that the final rites will be held on Wednesday.
A Career Defined by Memorable Villains
There is hardly an actor who established a reputation of playing menacing villains so well as Pradeep Rawat did.
To Hindi film audiences, he will always be remembered as the ruthless Ghajini in Aamir Khan’s 2008 psychological action thriller Ghajini. His performance opposite Aamir Khan became one of the most iconic villainous portrayals of the decade and significantly boosted his popularity across India.

A tribute was given by actor Thakur Anoop Singh, who collaborated with Rawat in Achari America Yatra, who recalled him as an inspiration and praised the boldness that he had during the illness. According to Singh, Rawat lived as a lion and he would still be an inspiration to others even after his death.
The veteran actor was also confirmed dead by actor Yashpal Sharma who lamented the death of a colleague who was respected.
