The crackdown was as a result of a particular cybercrime complaint lodged in Deeg, Rajasthan. As per the authorities, a customer in Deeg received a call from Azamgarh resident Akash Rathore, who allegedly claimed to be associated with Axis Bank and offered a credit card.

Rathore allegedly sent an Axis Bank visiting card and ID through WhatsApp when the customer asked him to establish his identity. The customer sent the information to a person he knew who worked at the bank to verify the details. The bank confirmed that the visiting card was fake.
